I am really enjoying flying my quadcopter. It’s a DJI Phantom 2, fitted with a 3D, 3 axis gimbal and GoPro Hero 3+ Black edition camera. This makes for a simple to fly, super quality rig, all for less than £1500 all in. A video downlink allows me to see what I am filming.
The village of Colston Bassett is a sleepy rural community in Nottinghamshire. It has 2 churches, a large Victorian edifice in the village centre and about ½ mile away, the old ruins. The church fell out of use in the 1850s, but were restored between 1994 & 2005, leaving an interesting and romantic ruin which has appeared in quite a few TV shows and movies over the years.
The day we went, it was quite windy, so flying was quite a challenge!
Once these houses are finished, I won’t be able to fly over this area, so I took the chance while they were still being constructed.
Modern safety systems - like the air bags inside the partly finished houses can clearly be seen, along with the high density housing layout.
These shots were taken from up to 70M height, with the closest approach to occupied homes being over 150M
